Industry WatchFederal Report In the Hopper Senators Carl Levin (D-Mich.), Jim Jeffords ( I-Vt.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine), have introduced legislation to assist communities in redeveloping brownfields. The Brownfields Redevelopment Assistance Act of 2003 would expand the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration’s initiatives to assist communities with brownfield redevelopment by authorizing $60 million annually for five years for redevelopment. This grant money could be used for business development, activities to help communities diversify their economies, collaborative economic development planning, eco-industrial development and revolving loan funds. EPA Administrator Christie Whitman appointed Richard E. Greene, of Arlington, Texas, as Regional Administrator for Region 6. The appointment was effective March 31, 2003. Prior to taking over the reins at Region 6, Greene served five terms as mayor of Arlington, Texas and he also served on the Arlington City Council, and was chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission.
