More than a ‘Wood-Be’ Success Story

Project: Gautier (Miss.) Oil field Background: The site is an approximate 24 acre parcel located within the city limits of Gautier, Miss. on the Gulf Coast and is surrounded by water, sensitive wetlands, and predominantly residential properties. CSX Transportation, Inc. (CSXT) worked closely with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality for a number of years to evaluate environmental impacts associated with the site and develop the final remedial action plan. Final remedial construction began in early 2011 and was completed 11 months later in December 2011. CSXT is partnering with the Land Trust of the Mississippi Coastal Plain to establish a conservation easement for the entire site to ensure the site use remains a thriving and healthy part of the surrounding estuary.
