Northeast Sustainable Community Workshop: 'Carry On Regardless'

Despite the cloud of uncertainty around federal funding, there's a mood pervading that mostly consists of "carry on regardless." At the recent Eighth Annual Northeast Sustainable Community Workshop, organized by BCONE (Brownfield Coalition of the Northeast), there was a demonstration that a continuing interest in environmentally responsible urban redevelopment is alive and well. One theme was the role of major corporations, continuing remediation work within the existing regulatory framework and to meet their own sustainability goals. The keynote speakers set the tone, the morning featuring a representative of Shell Oil who spoke about the new technologies of data management energy and resilience. Paul Commito, Vice President of Brandywine Realty Trust, discussed his firm's energy, data and sustainability efforts, while a Honeywell team later described their extensive remediation and redevelopment efforts on the large legacy chromium contamination properties in Jersey City, N.J.
